The Pantanal is the world's largest freshwater wetland, and a massive habitat for thousands of species of exotic plants and animals. Nearly 10 times the size of the Everglades the Panatanal is teeming wildlife that practically blankets the bog, and flood plains of this enormous and complex mix of eco-systems . Praia do Forte is located only one hour north of Salvador, in Bahia. It is a protected environmental area with 12 kilometers of semi-deserted beach bordered by lush groves of coconut palms, close to the Atlantic forest, lagoons, beaches, whale observation areas, coral reefs, and Project TAMAR dedicated to the protection of sea turtles that lay their eggs in the area.
There is also a charming village with lots of boutiques, and cafes, and trips can be taken to thr Castelo Garcia D'Avila ruins, the only example of a medieval structure in all of Brazil, and the Sapiranga Ecological Reserve has a wide variety of plant and wildlife.
